Trees, Dreams, and Miracles

The other day I heard a story about three trees. The first one was an olive tree. It had a dream of becoming a finely crafted treasure chest to hold jewels, but a woodsman cut it down and made it into a manger. The second was an oak tree. It had a dream of becoming a huge ship that would carry King’s across oceans, but it was made into a fishing boat. The third was a pine tree. It had a dream to always stand tall atop a mountain and remind everyone of God’s glory, but it was hit by a bolt of lightning and the woodsman threw it on a pile of old broken trees.

The three trees didn’t have their dreams come true, but they were created for purposes higher than their dreams. The olive tree became the manger where Jesus Christ was born. The oak tree carried Jesus Christ, fisherman of souls and king of kings. The pine tree became the cross upon which Jesus was crucified, a testament for all eternity to the glory of God’s mercy.

Sometimes our dreams are like those of the trees. We want to make a difference, to feel like our life has an important purpose, but life doesn’t unfold the way we imagined it. The message that the trees represent is one of dreams and miracles. Like each tree, you have your own unique destiny. All the forces of nature can’t keep you from becoming the masterpiece you were created to become. Hold onto your dreams but be prepared for miracles.
