Give up Your Grievances

“Let’s shake free this gravity of judgment and fly high on the wings of forgiveness.” —India Arie Simpson

Don’t let the poison of negativity infect your thoughts. Let go of all of your hurts and wounds from the past and the present and learn to live in a state of perpetual forgiveness. Freedom awaits, on the wings of forgiveness.

Lean not onto your own understanding. So often, we are unable to forgive someone we love who has hurt us deeply because it doesn’t make sense in our mind. But forgiveness is not of the mind; it is of the heart. It is unconditional and it comes from love.

When you feel justified in holding onto a grievance, you forget that you aren’t aware of the full picture. When you haven’t walked in another person’s shoes, you can’t comprehend their choices. But it isn’t necessary, and in fact, it is impossible to make sense of the actions of hurt and damaged people. Don’t take it personally. It’s not yours to own. Let it go.

I’m not claiming it’s easy to do. I’ve been struggling for years to forgive a deep hurt from my past. I have felt justified in condemning someone whose actions would be considered unconscionable by every human being on this planet. I have been unable to create the healing, reconciliation, justice and victory I desire. I don’t understand it. It isn’t fair. But holding onto the grievance has only created more hurt, pain and sadness in my life.

When you allow the poison of the past to stay trapped inside you, it grows instead of diminishing. You create your own suffering when you refuse to release it. In my experience, held negative emotions can manifest into physical illnesses. Why give the person or situation any control over your happiness?

I urge you, dear reader, to make the decision to give up your grievances. You have the freedom to choose how you respond to life’s challenges. You can fly higher on the wings of forgiveness.
